Capernaum

What you see above is possibly the house of Peter.  An unusual church with a glass floor is suspended over these ancient remains.  On some of these walls, archeologists found over 150 graffiti dating to 1st century with words like: Peter, Jesus, LORD.  The rooms were also re plastered 25 times, indicating a lot of use.  

Matthew 4:12-17

^"When Jesus heard that John had been put in prison, he returned to Galilee. Leaving Nazareth, he went and lived in Capernaum, which was by the lake in the area of Zebulun and Naphtali— to fulfill what was said through the prophet Isaiah:

 "Land of Zebulun and land of Naphtali,

      the way to the sea, along the Jordan,

      Galilee of the Gentiles—

 the people living in darkness

      have seen a great light;

   on those living in the land of the shadow of death

      a light has dawned."^[e]

From that time on Jesus began to preach, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near."'

Jesus healed the Centurion's servant in Capernaum and also drove out an evil spirit (Matthew 8 and Mark 1)

 

Matthew 17:24-27:

After Jesus and his disciples arrived in Capernaum, the collectors of the two-drachma tax came to Peter and asked, "Doesn't your teacher pay the temple tax?"

"Yes, he does," he replied. 

When Peter came into the house, Jesus was the first to speak. "What do you think, Simon?" he asked. "From whom do the kings of the earth collect duty and taxes—from their own sons or from others?"

"From others," Peter answered.

   "Then the sons are exempt," Jesus said to him. "But so that we may not offend them, go to the lake and throw out your line. Take the first fish you catch; open its mouth and you will find a four-drachma coin. Take it and give it to them for my tax and yours."

Every floor of the home was cushioned with straw or "thresh" and the threshold held the straw in the home.

Matthew 4: 21-22

^"Going on from there, he saw two other brothers, James son of Zebedee and his brother John. They were in a boat with their father Zebedee, preparing their nets. Jesus called them, and immediately they left the boat and their father and followed him."
