CHB Lesson #2

October 8, 1954

"When we have a haughty spirit...

It is not easy:
1. to apologize

2. to begin over
3. to be unselfish
4. to take advice
5. to admit error
6. to face a sneer
7. to be charitable
8. to keep on trying
9. to be considerate
10. to avoid making mistakes

11. to endure success
12. to profit by mistakes
13. to forgive and forget
14. to think and then act
15. to keep out of rut
16. to make the best of little

17. to subdue an unruly temper
18. to maintain a high standard
19. to shoulder deserved blame
20. to recognize the silver lining"

Pride goes before destruction, a haughty spirit before a fall. Proverbs 16:18
When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2
Dear Jesus, please expose the areas of pride in my life.
I want you to find my heart humble and giving praise to your name.

mud baths anyone?!

what a great day for the park...
everything was normal... a little chasing, growling, and tug-o-war
until Vali spotted something on the other side of the field:
It happened in slow motion...
no stopping her.
where is she?
old faithful Reagan didn't want to be involved in such childish ways
so he relaxed with me...
while Vali shook, flipped, and twirled...
inviting every other clean dog to join.
Most dogs would jump or run through the mud pit,
but not her, oh no, she would thrust her face under the
water and wiggle around like she was bobbing for apples.
Finally, after watching Vali wrestle and roll,
Reagan decided to join in:
but a little mud on his paws was enough for him...
a good rinse and scrubbing...
and they look pretty darn cute:

{okay maybe she needs another rinse}

blueberry buckle

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup sugar

1 egg
1/2 cup milk
2 cups of fresh BLUEBERRIES :)
(you could substitute raspberries)

Preheat oven to 350F
Grease bottom and sides of a 9X9X2 inch pan and set aside.
In a medium bowl combine the 2 cups of flour, baking powder and salt; set aside.

In a medium mixing bowl, beat shortening with an electric mixer on medium speed for 30 seconds. Add the 3/4 cup of sugar and continue beating on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the egg and beat well. Alternately add flour mixture and milk to beaten egg mixture, beating until smooth after each addition.

Spoon batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with blueberries.

In another bowl combine:
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Cut in 1/4 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; sprinkle over blueberries.

Bake for 50-60 minutes or until golden. Cool slightly...
Enjoy this coffee cake warm from the oven!
what a wonderful breakfast this would be on the first day of school :)

It's Raining in Love

by: Richard Brautigan

I don't know what it is,
but I distrust myself
when I start to like a girl
a lot.

It makes me nervous.
I don't say the right things
or perhaps I start
to examine,
evaluate
compute
what I am saying.

If I say, "Do you think it's going to rain?"
and she says, "I don't know,"
I start thinking: Does she really like me?

In other words
I get a little creepy.

A friend of mine once said,
"It's twenty times better to be friends
with someone
than it is to be in love with them."

I think he's right and besides,
it's raining somewhere, programming flowers
and keeping snails happy.
That's all taken care of.

BUT
if a girl likes me a lot
and starts getting real nervous
and suddenly begins asking me funny questions
and looks sad if I give the wrong answers
and she says things like,
"Do you think it's going to rain?"
and I say, "It beats me,"
and she says, "Oh,"
and looks a little sad
at the clear blue California sky,
I think: Thank God, it's you, baby, this time
instead of me.

try to pick your favorite
because I surely can't decide...
